Judith Anne Hasenauer Biography
Judith Hasenauer is a principal in the law firm of Blazzard, & Hasenauer, P.C. She is a 37 year veteran of the financial services business and devotes her practice to the development and regulatory clearance of variable annuities and variable life insurance products, mutual funds, broker-dealers and investment advisors.
Ms. Hasenauer started her career in financial services with the consulting and administrative service subsidiary of what is now Swiss Re, where she was assistant vice president and counsel to the systems development element of and served as a registered principal of the company's broker-dealer.
For over 30 years she has been in private law practice in the law firm she helped found. She represents insurers, money managers and distributors in the design and regulatory clearance of variable insurance products and of the mutual funds that underlie them. She also works with FINRA member firms, assisting them with regulatory concerns.
Ms. Hasenauer has been an active participant in NAVA from its inception, and headed NAVA's Regulatory Affairs Committee for twelve years. As the chair of the Regulatory Affairs Committee, she has been one of the leading spokespersons for the association to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the other regulatory bodies, including FINRA. She currently serves as legal counsel to the NAVA STP Project.
As chair of the Prospectus Simplification Sub-committee of the association's Regulatory Affairs Committee, Ms. Hasenauer led the negotiations to obtain NAVA's no-action letter from the SEC permitting profiles. She has served as the primary draftsperson for NAVA's proposal for a revised registration form for variable annuities, the N-4. Her ideas are a key element in what NAVA hopes will be a more simplified and expedited method for registering and updating our variable annuity products.
Throughout her long career, Ms. Hasenauer has been responsible for many innovations and breakthroughs in our industry. For example, she is the originator of the Contingent Deferred Sales Charge - an innovation that revolutionized not only the variable annuity and variable life insurance business, but the mutual fund industry as well.
In October, 2002, Ms. Hasenauer was inducted into the NAVA Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester with a degree in general science and of Golden Gate University with a J.D. degree. She also holds a designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter. She is admitted to practice law in California, Connecticut, New York, the District of Columbia, and Florida.
